of life, love, fashion, & forgetting to update

Happy Blog-iversary!

Today is my ‘8 year’ blog-iversary. I wish I could say I had 8 years of riveting posts, but I can’t say that I do.

I’ve used this blog (under two different names) as a means to journal and share creativity. I haven’t always needed that outward form of expressing myself, so there are many empty moments through the archives. However, I thought I’d share some interesting times in my life as I go through college, marriage and career changes in the span of 8 (more like 5-6) years.

2009: One year into college, 2009 is the year I really start blogging!

I discover my love of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s fashion and get my first non-restaurant job.

I am faced with the horrible choice of being forced to get my first touch screen and data-mandatory phone! (Back when phones were phones)

I realize I want graphic design to be my career.

I made many, many t-shirt d.i.y.’s. This one is a dress from a 4XL t-shirt.

I get engaged in a surprise photoshoot.

2010: The year I decided to link my Tumblr and Twitter to my blog and almost all my posts have NO TITLE. What an archiving nightmare.

I realize what a hoarder I am

I get super into Photoshop (some more)

I made my brother this adorable Max from Where the Wild Things Are costume

I get into photography.

I get obsessed with fashion photography and move to Chictopia for. a. while.

2011: I graduated college (mid-2010) and move somewhere with no Internet until I got married so I

Getting Ready

My awesome wedding party

A beautiful ceremony

And the reception (that I starved at)

2012: Working at an exhausting daycare job and feeling so creatively unfulfilled, I began blogging again!

I opened an etsy store selling vintage purses. This later turned into designing flyers

I tried blogging something more meaningful for the first time on the blog. (I’m still struggling with this, but I have so much to say these days that the hard topics must be given a voice!)

I got a job as a secretary which quickly moved into managing websites!

I started noticing some sad realities in my life. Mainly the gradual decline of friendships and relationships.

I tried my hand at d.i.y. journals!

2013: The year I blog fairly consistently!

I start (and fail to finish) and 365 day Photo Challenge

I tried (and fail to succeed) to organize my blog

I hint at all the friendship struggles I was having (but still try to remain positive and not get too deep)

I try my hand at recipes! Yum! & Coffee

I “win” a fun blogging award and answer questions about myself!

My husband graduates with his Master’s degree and I realize what that means for us

I finally get promoted from managing websites to managing and designing websites! Finally using that college degree to the fullest extent! Except, my creativity for blogging leaves me.

I learn the hard way about friendships. And, of course, give a vague nondescript version of the story.

2014: After a short lull (only like 6 months, no big deal!) I decide to start blogging again!

I’m trying to find my focus for 2014. I love d.i.y. and photography projects, but I really want to try my hand at writing more serious posts. I’m a quiet person and have let that affect my opinions on topics, so as not to offend or hurt feelings, but I don’t think that’s a good reason to keep quiet anymore. I hope I can find my path as I begin this blogging thing over again. Every year seems like I’m starting over, because I’m just trying to find my way. Here’s the beginning: 1, 2, 3

Lately…

lately3

Last weekend I didn’t take many photos as it was raining most of the time so we didn’t do much. It was still a really enjoyable weekend. Friday we ordered the most expensive Domino’s pizza, (like seriously, we didn’t know Domino’s pizza could cost that much since it’s a fairly cheap brand) and ordered movies off Amazon. We got on a Mystery Science Theater 3000 kick and, of course, watched the most awful movies made with hilarious commentary dubbed over it.

Saturday, we enjoyed dinner with my mom and siblings, Starbucks, and sorting through a huge bin of clothes my mom and sister donated to Taylor’s dad for his trips to Belize.

Sunday was all about The Walking Dead! Merle! Daryl! Agh.

I love lazy weekends.

(Then my coworker shared this awesome wall decal with me, from Etsy!)  Mystery Science Theater 300 Wall Decal  from  Walkingdeadpromotion

Also gifs! Jumping on the trendy train with A Witty Life. Although YouTube will do Mystery Science Theater 3000 more justice.

Hello March

march_banner

Let me be the first to say how crazy February was.

I started out with the same enthusiasm as I had in January, and really enjoyed the fun Valentine’s inspired printables I made. I had a great birthday celebration, and I also had a memorable Valentine’s day.

I think after Valentine’s day, though, I hit a slump. Less blogs, less crafts, less goals fulfilled! So, instead of feeling the weight of my somewhat failure, I’m just going to pick back up with March and start again.

Let’s talk about goals.

-365 Photo Challenge

Ehh….wow. February was SO hard to keep up with. My energy level was completely lost with this project. But I must move forward! For March, I’m NOT going to use a prompt. January, using a prompt was great. But in February, I could not seem to wrap my head around these simple, daily photos. I’m going to do some brain-storming on how to fulfill March during this 365 day photo challenge.

-Exercise Goal

Wow, look, another goal I can’t say I tried too hard on last month! I exercised a few times, but not nearly as often or as diligently as I should have. This is so important to keep up with.

-Blogging

I’ve been okay at this one, overall. But I can’t get lazy with it. I love having all these memories to look back on, so I can’t stop here!

-2 Weeks Away From Social Media

Today, I am starting a 2 week break away from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Last night, I signed out of those sites on my phone, so I don’t receive notifications. Lo and behold first thing that automatically pops up on my work computer is Facebook! (I just exited) Plus, I have my tablet and kindle fire with these sites installed. There are so many areas where social media is so readily available. It’s difficult to move away from these sites. The only hang up I’ve had so far, was when I wanted to steal one of my photographs from Facebook to use…and caught myself right before I hit enter. Oops!

-Daily Bible Reading
-Finish My Wedding and Honeymoon Albums
-More Family Time

I’m excited for what March will bring. I just have to continue moving forward with a positive outlook and not let the past two weeks of the February blues take away all my energy for the rest of the year!

-P.S. Facebook or Twitter followers:
My blogs are being automatically sent
to these websites via a second-party
program. I promise, I'm not posting
the blogs myself during this 2 week break! -

Couch-to-5K

The day after writing my first post about my second new year’s resolution to exercise, I came across coolrunning.com and an article for The Couch-to-5K Running Plan.

Like I said in my previous post: I’m keeping my goals simple. But, this plan aligned so well with the goals I had already laid out for myself, I wanted to give it a second glance.

Their Goals: (sound familiar to my own?)

  • 3 Days a Week
  • 30 Minutes a Day
  • 9 Weeks

The basis for the Couch-to-5K is to be able to run a 5K within 9 weeks. I’m not interested in that. I’m not even necessarily interested in solely running during the week. I’m all about walking, yoga and basic exercise at this point. But I’m excited to see if using a trainer app will help my motivation to push myself to the next level.

I’m Already Disappointed About…

I downloaded the Couch-to-5K app for $1.99. I like the layout of it so far, however…

They offer different ‘trainers’ and boasted about their all new Zombie Trainer. Alas, that was only for iphone users. I was hoping it was for Android as well.

I also….

Decided to try a less strenuous running app:

  • I downloaded the Run Double app for free.
  • Through the phone app, I signed up for AchieveMint.com which is a site that rewards you based on a points system for your running. ($25-$100 Visa gift cards)

I’m intrigued by the motivation it gives and the points it promises.

Resolution #2: Exercise

Image

I’ve been working on my first resolution, the 365 Photo Challenge and tracking the photos here. Tonight i realized I wanted to track resolution #2: Exercise. Not with daily photos, but check-ins that I can look back on to keep me motivated.

I need to do this for fitness and energy. I stopped taking care of myself years ago and I’m feeling the loss of stamina with every step on the treadmill.

My goals here are simple and geared toward long-term personal growth and overall healthiness. Not how much I can run, how long I can go, or how strong I can get.

I’m gaining inspiration from blogger Elise’s running goals.

My Goals:

  1. Workout 3 Times a Week – I’m going to the gym with Taylor which is helpful
  2. 30 minute Minimum Intervals – so far I’ve stayed within this realm…30-40 minutes of work.
  3. Don’t Over-Exert Myself – By pushing myself too much, I would most likely give up…and I don’t want that, now do I?
