Design Love!

I love my day job, I really do. I get to work with great designers and web developers to create some cool retail websites. But most of what I do is oversee them. I critique, show them changes, assign them more work. Creatively, it’s not very hands-on. Plus, while I fell in love with web design (I was totally one of those people who created Xanga and Myspace ‘layouts’ for everyone in high school, then loved the web design classes in college even more), my true love will always lie in design work.

The flyer above is my latest project. I was asked to create this for a discussion at the university. The boxing theme was their idea and I absolutely love how it turned out. Vintage-inspired, intense, but in a cheesy way. It was a lot of fun to create. Now I miss designing. That why I create the quoteables and printables on this blog and I hope to add more!

I don’t have much time for taking on many assignments like the above flyer anymore, but I sure love putting my all into designing the images on these blog posts. It’s such a learning experience every time I start a new design project. This is my passion. I’ll never be sick of it. And to think I almost went to college for acting. psh.

P.S. The girl in that Senior Invitation is my little sis. If you like makeup and hair you should follow her on Instagram because she’s a pro!

John Muir

My favorite childhood memories were created in the piney woods; sitting by the creek bed, walking through tress. It was a time to let my imagination run free. For hours I would stay in the forests, wandering around, making my own adventures, and learning the nature around me.

Upcycling Vintage-Glitter

Glitter is fast becoming a D.I.Y. trend in the online world. I’ve always been interested in upcycling vintage pieces and thought matching glitter with vintage would be the perfect way to get started!

Here are the blogs that have given me glitter fever:

Telling A Story: Paper Goods

For the wedding I designed all the paper goods around my bird/vintage/wooded theme. I am so glad I did this. This was such a lovely personal touch.

To start off my wedding paper planning, I designed a “wedding logo”. According to all the wedding websites I obessed over for two years, creating a custom wedding mongram is all the rage. Well, I jumped right on this, of course. I didn’t actually use the full mongram at the wedding, but creating this small ‘W’ with two love birds on a branch actually helped shape my entire wedding theme.

The lovely wedding invitation. (Note the two love birds and branch from my monogram!)

I SO enjoyed getting these response cards mailed back to me once I mailed our the invitations. On the back of each postcard-size response card was beautiful and hilarious wedding advice and inspiration from all of the friends and family we invited!

my new favorite photoshop filter

I wanted to give Taylor something really awesome this Valentine’s Day soย  took a bunch of pictures of me! Conceited, I know!

But oh how these pictures turned out! They were fun and a workout! And they were the surprise I was excited to show you!

1. I set up my Canon Rebel xsi on a tripod and turned the lens high above my head, and set an automatic timer. And then, an hour of jumping up and down ensued!

2. I then went into Photoshop and chose ‘Posterize’ filter in a red color

3. Then I chose from an array of brushes for a fun look

4. There were three ‘parts’ to my photos:

1. A booklet I made that had a hand written letter from me to him.

2. A story using pictures where the first photo was me with a heart thought bubble and it the last photo was hearts bursting out of the thought bubble, the message being “My love can not be contained.”

3. A ton of random jumping photos–I chose the craziest photos for this section!

I had SUCH fun creating this! Even if you don’t have any editing software, I would recommend shooting a photo shoot where everyone is jumping! It’s perfect for any occasion, or non occasion.

Deck the Halls With Boughs of Holiday Cards

Today I got a possible family pictures freelance job so I spent the night designing a few holiday card ideas (using 08 Christmas photos, including cute pics of Julia: Nalley News) to show the family.

Sometimes, I think “Wow, designers are so expensive.” But then I spend hours and hours designing something and remember why.

A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock&Roll

boots 004boots 005I bought some cowboy boots. ๐Ÿ™‚ I found these at Goodwill for $6.00 and they were almost perfectly what I’ve been looking for—they’re more of an ankle boot and they’re rugged. It was a very easy shoe to buy, needless to say.

I wasn’t planning on it, but today I was inspired to DIY these straps. There are two black, pleather straps from an old, old purse, and I had a black, studded belt that was too small for me so I cut it in half and, voila! Also, if I need a “plain” boot look I can just slide the straps off.

There are several inspirations for this look, but a very wonderful blogger from London–living in New York (Karen from WhereDidUGetThat) has definitely inspired me. Her shoe collection is massive yet very versatile! She can wear heels one day and studded Converse the next. This is one picture of a very small portion of her collection and you can see there are lots of shoes that I gathered the inspiration for the rugged look of my boots. =)

Karen from Where Did U Get thatkarenboot1In other news, this week has been good. ๐Ÿ™‚ Tay and I had a good time Tuesday just sitting on the square with coffee chatting until midnight. Just enjoying each other’s company, simply, was good. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have so much to talk about…to relay, in a journal-like fashion so that I can stumble across this very post and say, “Hey you know what? I did that on that day.” And really why else would I be blogging?

However. It is nearing 1 AM and I’m super tired so for now I’m going to do a quick recap of everything && hopefully go into further detail on another near-future day.

1. 11AM-1PM: Had a successful yet nerve-wrecking errands run. Got a lot accomplished just in time for class ๐Ÿ™‚

2. 12:40PM: Around this time on my errands run I’m being held up by Wal-Mart security: long-story-short: an unopened flashdrive given to me by my boss sets off the door alarms && Wal-Mart thinks I was trying to steal. They chose not to believe me until they saw me NOT EVEN GO INTO THE electronics department before they let me go. Just doing their job, but a bit inconvienent.

3. 1:02: A bit late for class because of Wal-Mart scandal (hold onto your purses, ladies & look out for me!) My group’s website was due & we had no clue. I pulled an entire website out in about 30 minutes. Yay group. ๐Ÿ™‚

4. 5-8:30PM: Head to my FIRST Marshall football game–for my little brother, Devin (8th grade). Good seeing some family, and snapped tons of photos. Luckily it was their homecoming so my step-brother, Johnathan (9th grade) was also playing in the band for a high school pep rally. Unfortunately I couldn’t get too many shots of him, but it was fun watching. (definitely a post about my first football game will be in order ;))

5. My lovely cousin, Katy is going to be a mime for halloween & I really wanted to make the mini top hat she had in mind, so she let me! Photos of that coming soon, as well. It’s cute. ๐Ÿ™‚

6. I want to wear this outfit. Of course, it’s an Olsen. Yes, I just did a post about them. I just really want to wear this outfit. Today I bought a sweatshirt and leggings…I had a belt. If only the weather would cool down just a smidgen more. And because I don’t have my camera close by to show you any photos of my version of the outfit…I’ll show ya what I’ve been looking at.

chic1chic2chic3 What do you think about this 80/90’s trend? Idk…sweatshirt& leggings…i like it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good night, all. Cooler, more hip, happenin’ posts comin’ soon. ๐Ÿ˜‰
